TWO suspected cattle thieves were killed and their bodies burnt in different incidents in Iganga district on Thursday night.

Gideon Kibwika, of Kasozi village in Kibaale sub-county, died after being beaten by a mob, while his accomplice, only identified as Kapaata, is being held by the Police.

South-eastern regional Police commander Jerome Baryayanga said the angry residents had organised to attack the Kibaale Police post to kill Kapaata but he was transferred to Kayiti Prison for safety before being taken to court.

He said the second incident happened at Bulubandi village in Nakigo sub-county, where an unidentified man found with stolen cows belonging to Sanon Waiswa was also burnt to death.

Baryayanga said the Police were investigating the incidents to establish the perpetrators of mob justice for possible prosecution.

“The suspects should be brought to the Police and taken to court for prosecution,” he said.

Meanwhile, Baryayanga said Karim Birali was beaten by a mob and his motorcycle set ablaze after knocking down two-and-a-half-year old Esther Nangobi in Budondo in Jinja district on Christmas Day.
