RISING tennis star Duncan Mugabe will shoulder most of Uganda’s hopes in a qualification tournament in Dar es Salaam this week for a slot at the Africa Junior Tennis Championship.

Mugabe, whose game has been boosted by a two-year stint at International Tennis Federation (ITF) African training centre in Pretoria, leads a team of four to the Africa Junior championship qualification tournament that starts tomorrow.

The top teams in the week-long tournament will qualify for the African meet in Pretoria, South Africa in April.

The qualification tournament that has attracted over 10 countries from East and Central Africa, will see four teams advance to the Africa championship.

Ugandan coach John Oduke said his team is good enough to qualify and have prepared adequately in the past one month.

“Our boys are very good which definitely boosts our team’s chances of qualifying. Don’t be surprised if we win the tournament,” Oduke said before departure.

Scandinavian Bus Service offered five tickets to the team yesterday.
Tabitha Nankya, Grace Ochieng and Martha Ofuyuru are the other players on the team that left yesterday.
