KAMPALA — A priest with the R Krishna faith was on Saturday killed in an accident on the Kampala-Masaka highway. Viri Basi, 55, a Briton of Indian origin, died on the spot in the 11:00am hit-and-run accident near Katonga bridge. The faith has a temple on Dewinton Road. Police spokesman Assuman Mugenyi said Basi was knocked dead by a Nissan pick-up truck number UAG 400J.

Man charged
KAMPALA — A tailor who reportedly swallowed 50 pellets of heroin worth sh15m as he jetted into the country was yesterday charged at Buganda Road Court. Henry Matovu denied the charge and was remanded in Luzira prison until February 6. The Kiyembe down town shopping hub tailor was arrested at Entebbe airport as he jetted in from Bombay on January 1.

Theft charge
KAMPALA — A former office messenger at workers Inn was yesterday charged with stealing sh117.9m from the company. Nelson Okumu, 31, denied the charge before Buganda Road Court magistrate Justine Atukwasa and was remanded until January 30.
