THE Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has fielded Athanasius Rutaroh to stand against Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi of the NRM in Rujumbura. Muhwezi had appeared unopposed.

Rukungiri district FDC chairman Rolland Mugume made the announcement at a press conference at the FDC offices in Rukungiri town on Monday.

“We have our candidate for Rujumbura, who is Rutaroh, and we know that he will not only win the seat but he will give the General a run for his money,” Mugume said.

Rutaroh is the former chairman for Rukungiri from 1998-2002 but was rejected by NRM after he supported Dr. Kizza Besigye, the FDC president, in the 2001 polls.

Mugume said Rutaroh would be nominated tomorrow at 1:30pm and would launch his campaign straight away.

Rujumbura has seven sub-counties, including Rukungiri town council. In Rubabo county, FDC has fronted Elly Kworoba to contest against Mary Paula Turyahikayo of the NRM. FDC’s Ingrid Turinawe will face NRM’s Winfred Matsiko for woman MP.
