KAMPALA City Council (KCC) has asked the Police to stop the controversial Bugolobi green belt development on Luthuli Avenue.
This followed the continued development of the land despite a directive to stop from KCC and the probe commission investigating the alleged land mismanagement in the city.
Town clerk James Sseggane (right) said the developer deployed armed guards to prevent KCC officers from enforcing the directive.
In a letter to the regional Police commander, kampala Extra, Sseggane asked for Police officers to disarm the guards.
Bugolobi green belt is a three-acre land which had over 1,000 trees that were destroyed after KCC leased it to a private developer, Nterefune General Enterprises.
Later KCC and the city land probe commission stopped developments on the land, saying it was a threat to drainage channels there.
The land has a network of telephone cables and sewage lines underneath.
