THE interim Lc5 chairman for Nakaseke, Amos Kigozi Sempala, was yesterday charged with forging an Ordinary level certificate.
Others charged were Longious Irumba, a senior electoral officer and Dennis Budali, an assistant electoral officer.

Sempala, 36, was charged before Buganda Road Court Magistrate Suzan Kanyange and was granted a cash bail of sh100,000. He could, however, not be released immediately because he had not paid cash bail.

Sempala denied the charges, which included an alternative count of uttering false document to Nakaseke returning officer.

Court heard that on nomination day, Sempala uttered a forged Uganda Certificate of Education to the electoral officers.

Kanyange said Sempalal was aware that forgery was unlawful but still claimed his academic papers were genuine.

State attorney Hellen Wenene said Sempala forged a result slip for Mengo Senior Secondary School in the name of Amos Kigozi Sempala that he uttered to electoral officials.

The state says Sempala forged an O’ level certificate with a serial number 69463 index number UOO53/178 claiming it was issued by Uganda National Examination Board. He will re-appear in court on February 1.

Sempala was disqualified by the Electoral Commission on suspicion that he forged and uttered fake academic papers during the nomination. Dressed in a red-checked long sleeve shirt and navy blue pair of trousers, Sempala appeared calm and composed as the charges were read to him.
