THE current rains are likely to be short-lived and will not continue up to the main rainy season, top weather experts have said in the most recent weather forecast.

“These unseasonable rains are not part of the main March to May rain season. The high-pressure systems are expected to weaken again in a few days’ time.

The implication is that some rainfall activity but reduced intensity is expected to continue for the next five days or so, mainly over south-western, western, north-western and Lake Victoria Basin,’’ said George Obua, the acting head of the Department of Meteorology.

According to the statement on the state of the weather for the last one-week, which the department released on Tuesday, there were cloudy conditions and rainfall described as light to moderate in Kitgum, Gulu and Masindi.

Other areas were Kasese, Kabale, Kampala, Mbarara, Entebbe Jinja, Tororo and Soroti, according to the report.

“These conditions brought relief to areas that were experiencing the effects of higher than normal temperatures,’’ said Obua.

However, an earlier report issued two weeks ago had indicated the dry spell would continue up to the end of February.
