Ogoola the teacher
JUSTICE James Ogoola has good teaching skills. The principal Judge and chairman of the judicial commission of inquiry into the alleged mismanagement of the Global Fund spared some time on Monday to teach a witness, Kituuma Magala some English. When Ogoola put it to Magala that he had formed another firm as a conduit to collect commission on his behalf, Magala protested the context within which the judge had used the word conduit but Ogoola said, “Conduit is a simple English word. I have used it for no bad connotation.”

Ken’s good memory
AFTER failing to get help from the speaker of parliament, former Lubaga south MP, John Ken Lukyamuzi who was expelled from parliament for failure to declare his wealth according to the leadership code Act, turned against the speaker in a ‘Ken star’ style. An angry Lukyamuzi said, “The speaker is still recalling a motion I once moved with intent to censure him following the sh5m kisanja cash he received. I put it to him that he is partially responsible for what is happening to me and I have no regrets for making this statement.”

No lectures in court
JUSTICE J.B. Katutsi does not entertain lectures in his court. while presiding over the trail of retired Col. Kizza Besigye over the alleged rape of Joanita Kyakuwa, Katutsi caused laughter in court when he asked a witness whether he was in court to lecture him (Katutsi) about AIDS or to give evidence. Katutsi who seemed not convinced with the relevance of the witness to the rape charge said, “It is not my duty to determine which witnesses the prosecution should bring but it is important that they are relevant to the case, not someone to come here and start counselling me on AIDS. Why don’t they wait for me until I become a victim then they can lecture me.”

Otafiire explains
WHEN scribes put it to him that the NRM party had most cases of election malpractices reported to the Electoral Fraud Squad, he did not dispute the information and his defence was that it is only the NRM party that is moving and therefore it was the only one that could flout the election rules. “A car can only raise dust when it is moving. The NRM is the only party moving. How do you expect DP to have electoral irregularities when they are not moving, UPC had problems when they tried to move. You can’t accuse somebody of playing rough when there is no game,” he reasoned.
