American boosts Bukwa race

KARL Keirstead has increased his sponsorship of the 2006 Bukwa road race in Kapchorwa to $1000, $300 more than last year’s package.

KARL Keirstead has increased his sponsorship of the 2006 Bukwa road race in Kapchorwa to $1000, $300 more than last year’s package.

Keirstead who is sponsoring the race for the second year running provided the package to be used for cash prizes for the top four winners of the event today.

This year’s race is classified as 5000m for women and 5000m and 10000m for junior, senior and veteran men runners respectively.

The American, who also supports athletics in Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania, has promised to extend more help to the sport in Uganda this year.

The Bukwa race has attracted top runners including Boniface Kiprop, Francis Yiga, Isaac Kiprop, Alex Malinga and Moses Aliwa.

Uganda Athletics Federation secretary Beatrice Ayikoru said yesterday that the federation had dispatched its officials Faustine Kiwa, Godfrey Nuwagaba and Gordon Ahimbisibwe to oversee the competition.
