KAPCHORWA — About 15,000 head of cattle have been vaccinated against the lumpy skin disease, the district veterinary officer, Dr. Nelson Yesho, has said. He said the vaccination campaign was prompted by the death of 100 head of cattle, whose diagnosis revealed that they were infected by the virus.

Man appears
JINJA — A man appeared before court on Thursday on murder charges. Henry Ndyabanika is said to have shot Richard Ogaba, a student of Makerere University, several times in the chest at Shell Agip pub on September 3 last year. He appeared before chief Magistrate David Batema.

Traders strike
BUSIA — Traders in Malaba town council on Friday demonstrated against high license fees. The over 50 traders stormed the council offices demanding audience with the mayor, George Alfred Obore and his executive, whom they accused of exploitation. The meeting went out of control when Obore suggested it be postponed, saying it had turned political.

FIDA opens
KAMULI — FIDA, an NGO which provides legal aid services, has opened an office in the district. Speaking at the launch of the office at Country Club on Sunday, project coordinator Lydia Kirire said FIDA was committed to bringing awareness to the public, especially in the social sector, through counselling to conflicting couples.

Govt directs
MBALE — The Minister of Education, Namirembe Bitamazire (above), has directed secondary school headteachers to provide data on the number of foreign students in their schools. The officer in charge secondary education, Martin Osuban, said recently that this followed claims that foreign students are exploited.
