CAIRO - An early strike from Didier Drogba helped the Ivory Coast to a second successive win, 2-1 against Libya, at the African Nations Cup finals on Tuesday.

The World Cup finalists again looked unimpressive in their Group A game but are now on the cusp of the quarter-finals.

Drogba scored in the 10th minute with his second goal of the tournament after Libyan goalkeeper Muftah Ghzalla spilled the ball.

The north Africans fought back strongly to equalise just before half-time through Abdelsalam Khamis.

The Ivory Coast took advantage of another defensive slip to win the game through a header from Gneri Yaya Toure.

* Democratic Republic of Congo coach Claude LeRoy has said the pay row that threatened the country’s participation at the African Nations Cup finals had been a waste of energy. “Just 10 minutes before the match the head of state called me on my mobile and promised to solve the issue. I passed the phone to the captain (Lomana LuaLua),” he said.
