KAMPALA mayoral hopeful Hajji Nasser Sebaggala yesterday spat fire at John Ssebaana Kizito, a presidential candidate, claiming that he (Ssebaana) is scared of him.

The Democratic Party (DP) disowned Sebaggala as the official mayoral candidate and endorsed acting mayor Dr. Hasib Takuba, who went through the primaries.

The decision was communicated to the Electoral Commission Secretary in a January 21 letter by Ssebaana, the DP president.

Sebaggala said he was still the DP’s official candidate, citing the December 27 memorandum of understanding between him and the DP National Executive Committee (NEC).

“We must separate individuals like Ssebaana and the party. NEC is above Ssebaana. NEC pulled me out of the presidential race as an independent and endorsed me for mayorship so Ssebaana is a confused confuser and I cannot be intimidated,” Sebaggala said.

“Ssebaana fears me because when I become mayor I will set up a commission of inquiry into the sale of KCC land and assets,” he added.

Sebaggala charged that Ssebaana and his associates in KCC sold off KCC land at give-away prices.

The NEC memorandum with Sebaggala was signed by Joseph Mukiibi, the national chairman, Richard Otto, the secretary general, Joseph Balikuddembe, the vice-chairperson for Buganda region and Elias Lukwago, the national legal adviser.
