CHameleone bounces back At golden awards

Ani Asinze 2005 (Golden Awards), a similar event to Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) Awards that was organised by ABTEX production to award the best artiste of 2005 saw Joseph Mayanja a.k.a Jose Chameleone scoop the top award with three awards of the thirty-seven categories.

Ani Asinze 2005 (Golden Awards), a similar event to Pearl of Africa Music (PAM) Awards that was organised by ABTEX production to award the best artiste of 2005 saw Joseph Mayanja a.k.a Jose Chameleone scoop the top award with three awards of the thirty-seven categories.

It was held at Namboole Stadium last Sunday. Fans started arriving at 10:00am, but the fun kicked off at 6:00pm. Surprisingly, the event that had started with a low tempo later got the hype when Jose Chameleone went on stage to sing his new song Maoko na Maoko and his popular Kipepeo. Also, the attendance of the Kampala mayoral candidates was an advantage to the event.

Al-hajji Nasser a and Peter Sematimba hijacked the show to campaign to the crowds. Sematimba arrived at about 6:00pm, amidst cheers from his fans attending the show. Nasser Ntege Sebaggala arrived at about 8:00pm with a group of supporters cheering him, long after Sematimba had left the show, shortly interrupting the show.

Sebaggala, who was shown on stage by the emcee Meddie Nsereko Ssebuliba was applauded the crowds when he concluded his address with a dance to Congolese music.

Jose Chameleone bagged the singer of the Year Golden Award, the most prized accolade dethroning Messach Semakula who beat him without trouble in the coveted 2005 PAM awards.

Juliana Kanyomozi was the female artiste of the year, and the rest of the winners were Eastern, Mega Dee; Western – Sister Charity; Northern – Loketo Lee and the best New Artiste; Sweet Kid. Chameleone also took the best Afro-beat single while Kadongokamu single went to Fred Sebatta and the Kadongokamu group to Prince Paul Kafeero.

Father Musala maintained his lead in Gospel single, and Ragga maestro, Ragga Dee also maintained the lead in raga, while Bebe Cool took the reggae artiste accolade.

The best R&B prize went to Juliana Kanyomozi and the best hip-hop to Klear Kut, and UK-based Da Twinz took the best video. The popular band remained Eagles Production and the best live band was Afrigo Band. The song of the year was Sigwe Onsimira by Messach Semakula, and the best actor was Sam Bagenda and the best actress was Mariam Ndagire.
