THE International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved the disbursement of $2.9m (about sh5.3b) to Uganda, signaling an end to a three-year finance facility that expires in February, an IMF statement has said.

The conclusion of the Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF) arrangement will pave way for the IMF’s Policy Support Instrument (PSI) framework under which low-income countries that may not need IMF financial assistance can seek its advice and endorsement of their policies.

IMF last year announced that Uganda had graduated from the poorest of the poor nations that need IMF’s financial help to maintain macro-economic stability owing to the country’s achievement of two decades of economic growth.

The IMF board approved a 16-month PSI for Uganda, after the expiry of PRGF deal.
