THE Government has secured sh19b for the resettlement of families that have been living in the internally displaced persons’ (IDPs) camps.

Addressing a campaign rally in Amuria district on Monday, President Yoweri Museveni said the money would be used to buy basic necessities for the IDPs to resettle.

“Now that there is total peace in Teso, Lango and even Acholi, it is now time to resettle you voluntarily. You will not return unless you are sure. You are the ones who will decide when to go home. We shall only tell you that it is safe. If you are not convinced, we shall not force you,” Museveni said at his rallies.

He addressed rallies at Orungo, Morungatuny and Obalanga camps and in Amuria town.

Museveni said the resettlement kit to be given to the returnees would include an ox plough, oxen, household utensils and at least 30 iron-sheets per family.

“If we get some little mabati (iron-sheets) we can give you to put on your house. We are tired of you destroying our grass. You should leave the grass alone. Let it grow and it will be for cattle,” Museveni said.

He thanked the people of Amuria and other parts of Teso for cooperating with the army in the fight against the LRA rebels.
