The Forum for democratic Change (FDC) has described the petition challenging its presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye’s academic qualifications as diversionary and intended to tarnish his reputation.

Addressing their weekly press briefing in Najjanakumbi, Kampala yesterday, FDC UK envoy Sam Akaki said, “It is another part of consistent effort to undermine Besigye’s campaign. There is no truth in what the government and the petitioners are saying but exposing themselves as people who have run out of ideas.”

Party lawyer Yusuf Nsibambi said they were not moved.

“We are relaxed against all these malicious charges, multiple suits and petitions. They are going to lose now that they have failed in the use of legal missiles they are now firing blank missiles,” Nsibambi said.

“We are not going to waste our time responding to the issue of academic qualification. If we are to do it now, we are most likely to start answering other senseless questions like Besigye has five heads. besigye academic papers are in order,” Akaki said.

He asked the Electoral Commission (EC) to focus on more serious issues being raised by the party like intimidation of their supporters.

Akaki said with less than 20 days to the voting day, the EC had not carried out voter sensitisation.

He blasted the government for failing to avert the power crisis.

“How do you loadshed for 12 hours a day and you claim you are going to transform the country? How can the country be turned into an industrial country without power?” he asked.

Akaki said the deliberate policy by Government to ignore the advice not to construct two outlets at the Owen Falls dam had caused power shortage.

Ruranga complained of a deliberate ploy by the Government to use the rebel ploy to ferry soldiers in constituencies to intimidate the opposition.

Nsibambi defended the FDC brigade, saying they are legally constituted bodies.
