ALWAYS Be Tolerant (ABETO), a local peace advocacy organisation, has decried violence in campaigns, saying Uganda needs political maturity.

“We should remain united and not to get involved in politics of divisionism,” ABETO chief Moses Musana said.

He said it was everyone’s responsibility to ensure unity.

He warned that if the various candidates and their opponents did not eliminate violence, the country would be plunged into chaos during the elections.

“Things might get worse if this trend continues. Everyone is claiming victory before the elections,” he said.

Musana was on Monday addressing journalists at Speke Hotel in Kampala on the “current political climate.”

His remarks follow clashes between the Movement and Forum for Democratic Change supporters in Kampala and upcountry last week.

Musana urged the candidates to respect one another, adding that hurling insults at each other was an uncivilised way of campaigning.
He urged speakers at campaign rallies to use civilised language.
