UGANDA’S batting again failed to fire in their third and last preliminary round tie as they fell to Bangladesh by 171 runs in the ICC U-19 cricket World Cup here yesterday.
The Asiatic Sports-sponsored side never impressed with the bat, crumbling to 84 runs. The Bangladeshi spin attack demolished Uganda’s middle and late order.
Opener Arthur Kyobe (31) stood alone at the crease as he watched his colleagues collapse around him with single digit-figures. Kyobe was also later bowled and caught by Mehrab Hossain with more than 16 overs to spare.
The gamble to elevate Emmanuel Nakana (06) and Ronald Ssemanda (01) up the batting order never failed to pay dividends as they all left the crease early.
The Ugandans started off poorly with the opening bowling pair of Patrick Ochan and Daniel Ruyange accounted for 54 runs in eight overs, before Ronald Ssemanda (4-43) came in to rescue the situation.
Uganda had earlier lost to defending champions Pakistan and another cricket powerhouse NewZealand.
Team coach Sam Walusimbi and manager justin Ligyalingi both expressed disappointment at the poor show.
Meanwhile Africa champions Namibia recovered from two losses to thump an already qualified Scotland by seven wickets in their last tie in Group C.
Scotland had already got the four points to play in the super league.
