CRANE bank has signed an agreement with Umeme to receive electricity bills and other related costs.

A.R. Kalan, the Crane Bank deputy managing director, said on Friday in Kampala that the deal allows Umeme clients to clear their electricity bills through the bank.
He said the scheme is open to everyone irrespective of whether they have an account with the bank.

“Our arrangement with Umeme is a clear manifestation of our dedicated service to the people, and an example of how two institutions can work together to make life easier for our mutual clients,” Kalan said.

“This is another milestone in bringing the services closer to the people as per our motto of ‘Growing to Serve and Serving to Grow,’” he said.

Kalan said payments can be made by cash or cheque at the counter or through their various ATM locations across the country.
He said the service would be free for all Umeme customers.

Umeme’s customer service chief, Sam Zimbe, said the scheme would quicken bill payment.
