Court bailiffs storm Cheeye’s home

THERE was a scuffle at the residence of the director of economic affairs and monitoring, Internal Security organisation (ISO), Teddy Sseezi Cheeye, yesterday as High Court bailiffs tried to evict him for non-payment of rent.

THERE was a scuffle at the residence of the director of economic affairs and monitoring, Internal Security organisation (ISO), Teddy Sseezi Cheeye, yesterday as High Court bailiffs tried to evict him for non-payment of rent.
High court bailiffs from Armstrong Auctioneers, accompanied by policemen, said Cheeye pointed a pistol at them before closing the gate, blocking attempts to throw his property out of the house at Plot 52A, Ntinda Two Road.
They said Cheeye left the house at about 10:00am but ordered his guards not to let anybody in.
Frank Batoora said they had secured a court order to evict Cheeye after he defaulted US$21,000 (over sh37m) for 14 months.
The landlord, Edward Kaddu Mukasa, who was also at the scene, said, “His employers advised me to handle it as a private and civil matter but he keeps threatening me each time I ask him to pay or leave the house.â€
In a January 9 letter, ISO director Dr. Amos Mukumbi said, “Deal with him (Cheeye) directly since the matter is of a private nature.â€
Kaddu and Cheeye signed a tenancy agreement in April 2002.
Cheeye was reportedly supposed to pay US$1,500 per month, one year in advance.
However, Cheeye said he had put up some developments on the premises worth sh22m and demands that the landlord must refund him before he leaves the premises. Cheeye told The New Vision yesterday that the landlord wanted to cheat him.
“We had a gentleman’s agreement that the house rent was US$1,000, although he told me we would indicate US$1,500 in the agreement because he wanted to secure a bank loan.
“I gave US$12,000 to his lawyers but he refused to take it. He has been declining to meet me to discuss the matter because he knows he is not honest,†Cheeye said.
