THE former DP president, Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere, has advised Uganda Peoples’ Congress parliamentary candidate for Moyo West, Dr. Moses Apiliga, to step down for the DP candidate due to his old age.

Ssemwogerere said Apiliga was a personal friend whose life he had saved when the army toppled the Obote II regime in 1985.

He said as the Minister of internal Affairs then, he protected Apiliga from political reprisals. Apiliga was a Minister of Supplies from 1980 to 1985.

“I advise my friend, Dr. Moses Apiliga, to step down in favour of DP’s Boniface Rodrigo Edema for West Moyo seat. I wish I could meet him because he is a very old man like me who needs not take part in active politics.”

“I saved Apiliga’s life in 1985 when I was the minister of Internal Affairs. He needs to support DP for what I did for him,” Ssemwogerere said.

Speaking at Moyo Mayor’s Gardens on Wednesday, Ssemwogerere also urged the people to vote for Ssebaana Kizito, calling him a peace-loving man who will not go for war in other countries but be mindful of the needs of the citizens. He said Ssebaana did a lot to develop Kampala city as its mayor.
