NAMBOOLE Stadium is gazetted as the national tally centre for gathering the results of the presidential elections on Thursday, the Electoral Commission (EC) said yesterday.

EC chairman Dr. Badru Kiggundu yesterday said his team would declare the elected president within 48 hours from closure of the polls.

Namboole complex is seven kilometres east of Kampala city centre.

Kiggundu said in a statement that all accredited members of the media, local monitors, local and international observers and agents of political parties and independent candidates will be allowed into the stadium.

However, access to the tally room will be regulated and controlled to minimise disruption of work.
“In order to minimise disruption of work in the room, access will be limited to accredited stakeholders,” Kiggundu said.

Opposition FDC party has been agitating for their agents to be allowed into the tally room, to ensure that the results are accurately added.

Kiggundu said at the polling station, the results will be announced by the presiding officer, starting with those for presidential polls then the directly elected MP and the district Woman MP.

Results from the polling station shall be delivered to the sub-county headquarters which is the central collection point for all the polling stations.

At the sub-county, the envelopes containing results shall not be opened because they are delivered there for accountability purposes.

The results will proceed to the district, where parliamentary winners will be declared, before the package reaches Namboole.
