BADRU Lusambya’s recent victory in a fight against Zimbabwe’s Farai Musiwa has further boosted the Ugandan in the World Boxing Council’s rankings.

Lusambya, 12-(11kos)-0-0 has improved from 19th place to 18th position in the welterweight division in WBC’s February list.

Lusambya knocked out Musiwa in the eighth round at Nakivubo last month.

The fast rising, sensational Ugandan boxer is now eyeing a WBC International title —a crown that could have him move into the top ten at the end of the year.

Lusambya who made the top 20 last year after flooring South African champion Tshepo Mashego, is the highest ranked home- based Ugandan boxer ever.

Kassim Ouma is placed seventh in
the light middleweight category in the latest WBC rankings. Another top ranked Ugandan, is Robert Kamya, at 21, in the same category.

Commonwealth boxing champion Jackson Asiku is ranked 28th in the featherweight division.

Super bantamweight Abdu Tebazalwa is at 38, the lowest ranked Ugandan featuring on the February list.

Other Ugandans like Ouma, who lost the IBF title to Russian Roman Karmazin last year, John “The Beast” Mugabi, Boza Edwards and Ayub Kalule all sparkled while based in either Europe or USA.

Meanwhile, professional boxing action resumes on March 5 when Festus Omondi takes on an opponent that will be named soon.

The fight will be an African Boxing Union featherweight title warm-up for Omondi at Sabrinas Pub.
