THE Kooki chief (Kamuswaga), Apollo Sansa Kabumbuli II, has expressed concern over the creation of the new Kabula district, reports Ali Mambule.
During his campaign in Lyantonde, President Yoweri Museveni granted Kabula county a district status as requested by the county Member of Parliament, James Kakooza.
Kabumbuli told his chiefs at his residence in Rakai town council on Monday that Kooki did not object to the creation of the new district but was sceptical of what would happen to Kacheera sub-county, which is in Kooki.
“We are not opposed to the creation of this new district of Kabula so long as Kacheera sub-county or any other part of Kooki is not tampered with,” Kabumbuli said.
Last year Rakai district council passed a resolution accepting the formation of Kabula district with Kacheera sub-county as part of the new district.
Kabumbuli said he would not accept an inch of Kooki cut off again as was the case with Kibanda and Kifamba sub-counties which were transferred to Kakuuto county.
Kabumbuli said, “There are many landing sites and cultural sites meant for Kooki development programmes which cannot just be transferred to other areas.”
The Kamuswaga’s premier, Ananiyas Sekyanzi, said Kooki was rebuilding its lost glory and cutting off some sub-counties would be a setback.
He urged Rakai district leaders to help support Kabumbuli’s programmes.
