Woman held over husband’s death

A 60-year-old woman in Jeng-Gari internally displaced people’s (IDP) camp in Pabbo sub-county, Gulu district, allegedly stabbed to death her 70-year-old husband.

A 60-year-old woman in Jeng-Gari internally displaced people’s (IDP) camp in Pabbo sub-county, Gulu district, allegedly stabbed to death her 70-year-old husband.
The Police said Elizabeth Akumu was rescued by the UPDF from a mob which attempted to lynch her.
District Police commander Richard Mvule said Akumu stabbed Constantino Oloya with a knife twice on the neck, killing him instantly. This followed a quarrel after the couple returned from a drinking spree.
“Both of them were very drunk when they picked a quarrel at around 8:00pm. The old woman was saved from the hands of the mob by the soldiers at Jeng-Gari who brought her to Police,†Mvule said.
He warned IDPs against overdrinking in the camps, saying much drinking resulted into violence, defilement, wife and children battering and break-up of families.
Mvule said it was not only in Jeng-Gari camp where people drink a lot, but also in other camps in Acholi sub-region. He appealed to camp leaders to curb the habit.
