Out of nowhere, these new stars burst onto FM radio pop charts and the music scene last year. Before we knew it, many of us had fallen for their songs. Raising such a furor is an indication that these are rising stars we should be watching out for in 2006.

Stacia Mayanja
This Eagles’ Production crooner knocked Titi off the radio charts’ number one spot with her debut track Wabanswaliza. But that was after gathering thousands of fans by singing karaoke in pubs and later, in the Splash Band.
Her follow-up single Sisuubira sold well over 120,000 units last year. Eager for more, Mayanja is now working on her third album at Kasiwukira Studios. She can match her high-pitched soprano to a variety of live band instruments and Mayanja always punctuates her songs with urgent Afro-pop grooves. Meanwhile, she swears that she will give Juliana a tough run at the 2006 PAM Awards.

Xray
Having wooed thousands of discotheque revellers with their debut single Baby boy, baby girl, Xray, a group of three, went on to become big thrills at the East African music Festival at Munyonyo
Their signature sound of outrageously slinky hiphop beats and a punch of reggaeton all mixed with passionate vocals has turned the Xray into heart-throbs among the hip, urban youths. The trio is now rocking hard with their new single Tutamuka. Their debut album will hit the airwaves anytime soon.

Fina Mugerwa
Catapulted into the limelight by her debut single Masanyalaze, 23-year-old Mugerwa jolted local pop music-to her own tune. Critics first trashed the song as cheap watered-down stuff. Interestingly, Masanyalaze continued generating vulgar catchphrases all over town and before long, it had hit the number one spot on CBS FM.

Right now, Mugerwa is getting ready to ride on her new seven-track album.
Perhaps all the hundreds of men who cram into concert venues just want to see how Mugerwa wriggles and writhes and yanks her legs while dancing. But what else would you expect of a girl who danced with the Diamonds’ Productions for three years before going solo?

Whenever it comes to putting up an exciting performance, Mugerwa won’t be beaten. She is one of the favourite candidates for the PAM Awards best new artiste of this year.

Ngoni
These were the coolest newcomers to emerge in 2005. Their debut single Ddigi vaulted at number one everywhere.
Because of Ddigi’s immense success, many people are looking forward to the Ngoni’s upcoming album.
But this has just been preceded by Nasiima Gwe, their new single which is now nestling among the top five radio hits.

Priscilla and Bella
Priscilla was a dancer with the Obsessions and Bella Shadows’ Angel. Priscilla is riding high with her debut track Mwana Ggwe while Bella has just served radio listeners with an enchanting cocktail of Afro-pop beats and soul-drenched vocals.
The two party-animals have been earmarked for a joint album, yet to be released from the Dream studios.

Irene Namubiru
Fresh from France, Namubiru jumped onto the local pop scene last year with Lwaki Onzannyirako.
A former singer with I-Jay, Namubiru has been earmarked for a new album recorded by Steve Jean and Henry Kiwuuwa.
And with her flexible high-strung voice, her illustrious stage performances, she could well knock Juliana off the number one chart spot.

Kid Fox who toppled the Yello Top 10 charts with his Abooluganda N’emikwano is another rising star.
