The best five students from Mubende District have each received a cow and sh100,000 as reward for the good performance in the 2005 Uganda Certificate of Education Examinations (UCE).
The top five, all from Mityana Modern Senior School, are; Clare Nakayaga, Clare Nakubulwa, Charles Ssempija, George Nsubuga and Willy Nkambo.
The chief guest, Robison Nsambu Lyazi, the Assistant Commissioner for Education, asked students to stick to education because it is the only way to their future development.
While handing over the prizes, Wilson Mutebi, the retired Bishop of Mityana, urged the students to be God-fearing and take Him as their first priority before reading.
He appealed to the Ministry of Education to change examination setting to suit student in rural areas.
“It is not right for students in areas like Kalangala, Nakapiripirit and other remote rural areas to sit for the same exams as those in districts like Kampala, Wakiso and other town areas,” Mutebi said.
The cows and money was a pledge from the director of the school Godfrey Mbalire for the best five students in the district.
