THE Forum for Democratic Change has vowed to resist the trial of its leader Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye on charges of terrorism and illegal possession of firearms in the General Court Martial on March 15.
This followed the reinstatement by the GCM of Besigye’s name on the charge sheet along with 22 other suspects.

Addressing a press conference at the FDC Najjanankumbi base, secretary for electoral affairs Maj. Rubaramira Ruranga, flanked by Sarah Eperu and other officials, said, “We shall use every other means to resist taking Dr. Besigye to the General Court Martial. We are aggrieved that despite the Constitutional Court ruling, Gen. Tumwine has decided that he wants to try Col. Besigye in his court.”

“We believe that Tumwine is contravening the Constitution. It is a coup detat which the people of Uganda should resist. We shall resist this kind of rule of decree by the army. Besides, we have not received the summons. We have only read about them in the media,” Ruranga said.

He said, “We appeal to the international community and fellow Ugandans to help us resist this unfair trial. We cannot not reveal how we shall resist but we are going to do it.”

On the FDC petition, he said, “The election was very flawed. Uganda has never experienced such massive rigging in its history. We are not going to sit on this evil. We are not going to sweep this corruption under the carpet. We are not succumbing to any pressure, local or foreign to drop this petition.”
