ROOKIE Patrick Mugisha, who surprised many with a podium finish in Rakai on a first outing last month, believes he can repeat the feat in this weekend’s Mbarara rally.

Mugisha said that the rough route is likely to hit frontrunners that he will capitalise on to claim another good position.

“There’s no doubt I can power my machine as hard as they (frontrunners) do but I will be cautious and may finish on the podium if I survive,” an upbeat Mugisha declared.

National champion Ponsiano Lwakataka, his main challenger Ronald Sebuguzi and jinxed Charles Muhangi are expected to run at the helm of the pack.

The second National Rally Championship (NRC) event had attracted 16 drivers by last night.

Scrutineering of cars will be conducted today at 2.00pm at Pearl Bakuli fuel station in Kampala.

The rally will be flagged off at Kakyeka stadium on Saturday and drivers will head for Bushenyi where they will tackle five sections in the first leg.

On Sunday, the second leg will cover three sections in Mbarara.
The rally is organised by Mbarara Motor Club.
