THE Mbarara Rally will be more of a showdown between national champion Ponsiano Lwakataka and top challenger Ronald Sebuguzi whose chances have been boosted by acquisition of a powerful Mitsubishi Evo4.

Lwakataka, with a new co-driver Justin Mungoma in Subaru Impreza N-4, will be flagged off Saturday morning at Kakyeka stadium in Mbarara and will be chased by Jomayi-sponsored Sebuguzi in what promises to be a tight contest.

“I want to take the national championship tile from Lwakataka. I will be cautious in the new car but I will certainly give him a run for his money,” an upbeat Sebuguzi commented.

Andy Kigozi, one of the country’s top mechanics who used to head former national champion Charlie Lubega’s service team, will back up Sebuguzi’s service crew.

But Kilimanjaro Ice-sponsored Lwakataka downplayed Sebuguzi’s challenge. “With a powerful car Sebuguzi now poses a minor threat to me that I will effectively deal with,” Lwakataka remarked.

Omar Mayanja in an old Mitsubishi Gallant and Charles Muhangi will be third and fourth respectively on road.

The rally will cover five sections in Bushenyi district today in the first leg and the second leg tomorrow has three sections in the Mbarara district terrain. Provisional order of start
