FORUM for Democratic Change (FDC) president Dr. Kiiza Besigye has warned President Yoweri Museveni not to sideline the 41% of the population who didn’t support him in the presidential elections.

Besigye said Museveni should learn to accommodate people who don’t support him, which is the way of multi-party politics.

Besigye, speaking on CBS FM, said the government was responsible for ensuring that Ugandans enjoy peace but that it’s instead suppressing peaceful demonstrations.

The presidential runner-up was responding to a caller who wanted assurance that there would be security at a national celebration organised to thank his supporters at KK beach, Gaba in Kampala on Sunday.

“Movement supporters should tell their leaders that this method (isolation) is dangerous, it’s going to cause trouble in this country,” said Besigye on the talk show, Parliament Yamwe, hosted by Meddi Nsereko Ssebuliba.

Besigye said the north and east which contributed his 37% vote, has faced untold suffering under the Movement government.

Museveni got 59.28% of the votes.
Besigye added that Museveni was still accustomed to leading “a one-party state” and not a multi-party state.
Besigye defended his election petition, saying the FDC party has evidence of election malpractice.
