DRY foodstuff sellers are doing brisk business due to high demand amidst low supply, forcing a price increment, a weekly survey in Kampala’s major markets has shown.

The surveys carried out in St. Balikuddembe, Nakawa, Nakasero and Kalerwe markets plus Kikuubo found that the price of all four grades of maize flour were up by sh100. Millet flour was sold at sh1,000 from sh800 last week.

Beans that were sold at between sh1,000 and sh1,200 a kilo are now sold at between sh1,300 and sh1,500 depending on the type.

The price of a kilo of groundnuts and simsim at Nakasero increased to sh2,500 a kilo from sh2,200.

The traders said the increment was due to exhaustion of stocks and high prices from maize millers.
