UGANDA’S only flag bearer in the continental club race — URA started off the CAF Confederations Cup, first round on a good note.
In a rare show of resilience, the Ugandan side battled from a goal down to beat former African champions El Merreikh 2-1 at Namboole.
It was a big relief. Ugandans had barely a month earlier painfully watched their champions Police FC fail to even score a goal on the same turf against another Sudanese club El Hilal.
There was even more pain as Police were whipped 3-0 in the Khartoum return leg before again losing by the same margin to Merreikh in a friendly.
But URA had better not rest on their laurels as an even bigger battle awaits them in Khartoum.
A casual approach will only end yet another early exit by a Ugandan club from the continental race.
URA should, for starters, consult Police on how to go about an away encounter in Khartoum.
The next step should involve at least two serious away build-up matches in conditions similar to those that await them in Khartoum.
All the tax collectors have to do is inject more money and the yellow and blue flag will continue flying high.
They should remember that they will reap what they sow.
