A Johnson Bagoole controversial goal from the spot seven minutes to time at Wankulukuku gave Express victory over visiting Mbale Heroes to reclaim top position in the super league.

Express was awarded the crucial penalty after referee Dennis Batte adjudged a Heroes defender to have handled the ball in the frobidden area leaving hard-fighting Heroes crying foul about the decision. The Red Eagles now leads the table with 26 points, one clear of URA that has a game in hand.

Earlier Express’ Tony Odur had broken the deadlock after 64 minutes to which Heroes hit back five minutes later with a Chris Doka strike. Then Bagoole slotted in the winner for the hosts.

Shaka Mpiima would have levelled for the eastern side in the dying moments of the game but he shot over the bar with Express custodian James Magala already beaten.

At Nakivubo, league top-scorer Godfrey Wakaza continued his fairytale, striking his 10th goal in a many games as Army side Simba played to 1-1 draw with basement side Kampala United.

Wakaza, the surprise contender for the golden boot, volleyed in off a Patrick Ochan cross from right flank to put Simba ahead after 27 minutes.

Kampala United teenager Andy Ssali capitalised on a goal-mouth melee on the hour to share the spoils.

Kampala United had Charles Katamba sent off and Joseph Babigumira, Pius Ngabo and Godfrey Ssentongo cautioned.
Action resumes tomorrow with Masaka LC hosting Maji while KCC take on Super Cubs.
