CREWS without fire-proof clothes will be thrown out of the Alpha Pearl of Africa Uganda rally due April 21-23.
As a safety measure, motorsport world governing body, FIA now requires drivers and their navigators to wear fire-proof overalls.
“We have warned our drivers several times that there will be no compromise on fire-proof overalls. We know many competitors don’t have them but they are reluctant to come for measurement so that we assist them order for affordable overalls from Tanzania,” Pearl rally spokesman Dusman Okee warned.
Okee advised drivers to take measurements at Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) office by Wednesday.
Meanwhile, with five days to closure of registration for the rally that is the third round of the Africa Rally Championship, no local driver has entered the event.
Zambians Muna Singh and Paul Monge, and Belgians Guy Ernst (above) and Patrick Emontspool were the only competitors on the entry-list at the weekend.
More foreign competitors from Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda have shown interest in the rally but are yet to confirm participation.
The rally will start with a super special stage at Lubiri on April 21 ahead of the second and third legs in Luwero.
