Kaberamaido chief administrative officer (CAO) Raphael Aporu Okoropot has been interdicted over alleged mismanagement of funds in the district.
The local government ministry Permanent secretary, Vincent Ssekkono, said in a February 13 letter that the interdiction followed a report that the district lost over sh600m.
“I informed you that the allegations were serious on your part as a public officer and accounting officer. They reflect negligence of duty and total mismanagement of public funds,” Ssekkono said.
He said the case would be forwarded to the public service ministry for disciplinary action.
Ssekkono said Okoropot failed to file his statement of defence within 14 days from January 3.
He said Okoropot neither cared to exonerate himself from the allegations nor respond to the findings of the ministry’s inspectors.
The letter directed Okoropot not to frequent the district local government offices.
“You should not leave the country without the permission of the permanent secretary,” Ssekkono said.
The commissioner for local government, Tom Matte, in a letter of March 14, also directed Okoropot to hand over office with immediate effect.
“Unless you do so without any further delay, your action may attract further disciplinary action against you,” Matte said.
