THE High Court has dismissed a case in which thousands of people are seeking compensation from the Government for evicting them from the Forest Reserve and Game Sanctuary in Mpokya sub-county, Kibaale district.
Justice Richard Oscar Okumu Wengi on Tuesday agreed with Joseph matsiko, the Acting Director of Civil Litigation, that the case had been concluded in an earlier suit and the Government had compensated them.
Thousands of people sued the government, alleging that they were deprived of their right to education and property in 1992 when the Government evicted them from the area.
The plaintiffs, who said they were school-going children by the time they were evicted together with their parents, claimed that the Government’s action deprived them of education and a place to live when their schools were destroyed during the eviction.
Matsiko (left) argued that there was no right breached when the Government did not erect or maintain schools in a game park.
