A SH600m bridge that had just been constructed on Lake Bunyonyi to help Krone Uganda Ltd, a wolfram mining company transport mining equipment across to the site, has sunk.

Kiganda Ssonko reports that the 100-metre long Nyamuliro Bridge, links the wolfram mine to Kabale.

Isingoma Kakiza, the Krone managing director, has been left dumbfounded.

He said the bridge breakdown would affect the planned commencement of the mining process. The mining process had been delayed for years due to court battles over the dfcu Bank loans, borrowed to finance the purchase of the equipment.

“The mining equipment has been stuck in Kampala for five years. I was planning to move it to the site but everything is now at a standstill,” Kakiza said.

The Nyamuliro wolfram deposits are said to be over one million metric tonnes estimated to last 60 years.
