THREE infant chimpanzees have a chance to be reunited with another wild group resident at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre at Entebbe.

The chimps were last year rescued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) from captors.

Chimps are listed on the red data list of the World Conservation Union as endangered animals, meaning that they would disappear from the face of the earth if nothing is done to stop habitat destruction and poaching.

The Wildlife Conservation Society says only 5,000 out of an estimated global population of 250,000 chimps live in Uganda.

Dr. Patrick Atimnedi of UWA said Aluma, one of the chimps, was recovered from suspected poachers near the Uganda-Sudan and DRC border.
