STUDENTS in East African do not have to travel to India for studies anymore. At the International School of Business and Technology (ISBAT) in Kampala, they can access cutting-edge business, technology, and management programmes from Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), supported by Manipal Universal Learning (Manipal U). Briefly tell us about Manipal University?
Manipal U is the Learning Resource Development Center (LRDC) for the Sikkim Manipal University and the branch campus for the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Manipal U offers high quality, value-based, career-oriented education through a vast network of university learning centers using interactive VSAT technology.

What does it do exactly?
Manipal Universal Learning anchors the distance learning, learning and training and learning service businesses for the Manipal Education Group and draws upon the group’s experience in providing professional education in health sciences, engineering, management and patient care.

For how long has Manipal existed?
For over 50 years. We provide a high quality, value based, relevant learning experience to our students. We ensure that our curriculum meets industry needs while embracing new age trends.

What is your current enrollment?
We have over 74,000 students across the globe and Manipal institutions are the home to India’s largest international student body. Our tie up with ISBAT represents a significant step towards achieving global leadership in education.

How will this partnership benefit students in Uganda?
Manipal U believes that education knows no barriers – not even that of geography. We have been successful in taking the distance out of education to students in India and the world over through our network of over 500 learning centres across the globe. This partnership with ISBAT will provide students in Uganda the opportunity to experience education that is accessible, affordable and personalised around the learner.

What are your future prospects?
We are happy to be associated with Manipal U and SMU. The objective of this new venture is to make a world-class education facility available to Ugandans in a most affordable manner to the common citizens. This association will be beneficial to our students. Students in Uganda can now look forward to exploring new avenues and pursuing an international degree.

What is ISBAT offering this year?
A range of diploma, degree and masters programmes in Management, Commerce and Information Technology. A total of 54 different courses are expected to be available from 12 disciplines.
