QUESTION: What is your style of music?
At first people referred to it as urban contemporary music, but I think it is Afro-beat.

What did you have in mind when you composed Ssegwaga?
Laughs. I was thinking about men who do not care for their families. There is a tendency of men running away from responsibilities. My siblings and I grew up with our mother without any help from a man. It was not about impotence as many fans allege.

Why are most of your songs about men?

It is what fans love. But I have so many songs like Lwaki Temumureka and Babigambo Byabwe, which talk about other issues.

What is your most precious achievement in music?

I have got many friends and contacts that help me in accessing some places.

How does it feel to produce a hit?
It gives one confidence, which motivates them to work on other tracks.

You seem to have taken long to bring out another hit?
I’m about to release another album. I am now working on its video.

When did you have your first kiss?
It was 1992, with a village-mate, but I regretted it afterwards. I felt stupid and I did not like it. I took very long to kiss again because that first kiss put me off.

Who is the man in your life?
Right now, there is none, but I am not searching. I must say I am comfortable where I am.

You have been linked to Eddy Sendi.
Eddy is my business manager. There is nothing personal between us. But we can still ‘happen’ together.

What is your ideal man like?
I don’t like possessive men. Mr Right should be so caring, lovely and, of course, able to protect me from danger. A man who is responsible makes a woman feel good.

Today, there are many single men and women. What do you think is the problem?
I think ladies lost trust in men and that is why Baganda women came up with a saying that ‘teli musajja w’omu’ meaning that a man cannot be for one woman. Women lose interest when they know there is someone for the man outside the home. Men like adventure; they like changing women. In this process, they end up losing women who really love them.

What couldn’t you do without in your life?
Music. I sing even when I am showering and cooking even when I am annoyed. I may be conversing with someone and I feel like singing, so I start singing.

Why do artistes like to wear coloured hair?

Bright colours appeal to our fans and we want to look different from ordinary people. We have to be unique.

What place do you frequent most in town?
I go to Victorious Suites in Zanna on Entebbe Road. On average, I go there twice a week.

What cream do you use?
I use Clear Essence and Samona soap.

What soap do you use to wash your bras?
I use Omo-multi-active detergent to wash my underwear and bras.

Which subject did you hate at school?
History, because teachers used to give us too many notes. It was not practical and yet I loved practical subjects.

What bad habit did you have as a teenager?

I used to sneak out of home and go dancing in night clubs. I also used to isolate myself because I was so reserved.

How often do you quarrel?
I don’t quarrel. I stay alone and at work it is really teamwork and no need to pull up gloomy faces.

Would you pay fees for your stepson?

Yeah, if I had money because the child has no problem and there is no cause to punish a kid because of his parents’ sins.

What do you hate about women?
I hate their gossiping. They talk too much about things that don’t matter.

And men?
I hate men who disrespect themselves and those who go pissing on the road.

What do you do to relax?
I read novels, watch movies and listen to music.
