THE high poverty rate in Uganda is a curse from God and should not be blamed on the NRM, Luweero deputy RDC Jackson Mangaali has said.

“The poverty we have was not brought by the NRM. It is a curse from God. When our ancestors rebelled against Him, He got annoyed and made man poor,” Mangaali said at the World Health Day celebrations in Nakaseke district on Sunday.

He attacked critics who accuse the NRM government of making the people poor, saying they were shortsighted.

“The NRM would not want its people to be poor. It is Adam and Eve who annoyed God. That is why we have poverty,” Mangaali, a born-again Christian, said while quoting the book of Genesis.

He said the NRM government had created a conducive environment for development partners to fight poverty.
