Apac district gets sh53m

THE local government ministry has given Apac district over sh53m for the Plan for Modernisation of agriculture (PMA). Tom Atim, the district officer in charge of PMA, recently said the district had received sh53,618,000 as first PMA disbursement for the financial year 2005/2006. Atim called for transparency and accountability for the funds. The sub-counties to benefit include Aboke, Aber, Otwal, Abongomola, Acaba, Aduku and Akokoro. Others are Alito, Apac, Nambieso, Chegere, Balla, Ayer, Ibuje, Iceme, Inomo, Loro, Minakulu and Ngai.

Teenagers held over gun

TWO teenagers suspected to have grabbed a gun from a Saracen guard on March 27 in Ggaba, a Kampala suburb, and murdered a 70-year-old man, have been arrested. Kampala Extra Police chief Grace turyagumanawe said the boys, aged 17 and 19 years, both of Ggaba, were arrested at the weekend in kabulasoke, Mpigi district. Meanwhile, a woman shot at a hotel manager as he left the hotel premises in Zana, a city suburb, with his driver over the weekend, the Police said.

‘Killed rebel was ADF spy’

THE army in Bundibugyo district has said one of the four ADF rebels killed in the area was a top spy of the group. Speaking on phone, the Rwenzori Mountains Alpine Brigade spokesperson, Lt. Robert Kamara, said documents recovered from the rebel identified him as Data. The army killed Data at Katwe Kali, Kakindo village, in a March 30 ambush as the rebels tried to enter Semliki National Park.
