HOIMA — Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru has called a council meeting due on Saturday at the Kingdom Rukurato Hall with Kibaale issues top on the agenda. Press secretary Henry Ford Mirima said, “I am concerned that the Bafuruki (migrants) are pouring in the kingdom in increasing numbers and they have taken up dominant political power in Kibaale.”

KAMPALA — A total of 306 candidates have passed the Makerere University mature-age examinations and have been short-listed for various courses. Deputy academic registrar in charge of admissions Elisha Obela said 5% of the candidates would be admitted on government scholarship. A source said the university would start receiving applications for private sponsorship in May.

Awori files
BUSIA — Out-going Samia Bugwe North MP Aggrey Awori has filed a petition challenging the election of Stephen Mugeni Wasike as the MP. Awori, who had earlier withdrawn a petition challenging the poll results, said in the petition filed on Monday that Mugeni did not deserve to be nominated. He also said Mugeni used defamatory statements and intimidated Awori’s agents.

KAMPALA — A court orderly, PC Olive Kayinza who was sent away by Justice Vincent Kagaba for disobeying his directive, has been re-deployed at the High Court main gate. However, Kayinza, who was sent away for allowing a stranger to speak to a State witness during the Col. Kizza Besigye treason trial, will miss a daily allowance of sh2,000, which she was entitled to during the trial.

Man treks
JINJA — A 65-year-old man on Wednesday walked from Mayuge district to Jinja, a distance of over 40km, to congratulate mayor-elect Baswale Kezaala upon his election. Shaban Nkuutu of Wante village said he started his journey at 7:00am and arrived at Jinja central division headquarters at 2:15pm. Nkuutu said the trek was a demonstration of his support for the Demo-cratic Party, of which Kezaala is a member.

Raid check
Sironko — The district has deployed armed vigilantes on its border to check cattle raids by Karimojong rustlers, resident district commissioner Kamara Bayeye has said. He said in an interview on Tuesday that the force, commanded by the UPDF, would serve Muyembe, Bukhalu and Bumambutye sub-counties. Bayeye assured the residents of the Government’s commitment to addressing their security situation.

Court orders
KAMPALA — Mwanga II road court has issued a warrant of arrest for a man charged with tearing President Yoweri Museveni’s posters. Aramazani Kiwanuka, a welder and resident of Kabowa, reportedly committed the offence on January 14. He was charged and received bail but has not shown up at the court since then.

Rule expected
KAMPALA — Peoples’ independent party president Yahaya Kamulegeya has said the recent court ruling on the presidential elections petition filed by Forum for Democratic Change chief dr. Kizza Besigye was not a surprise. Kamulegeya said his party did not participate in the elections because it projected anomalies and unfairness in the process. He was on Wednesday addressing journalists at UTODA House.

Soldier held
LUWEERO — The Police disarmed and later arrested a UPDF soldier after he fired several bullets, forcing villagers to scamper for their lives. Sgt. Samwiri Mugamba, attached to Gulu barracks, was disarmed by 15 armed policemen. The district officer in charge of crime, H. Oweka, told The New Vision that the incident took place on Thursday at Bunyenye village near Luweero town, where Mugamba had visited.
