Three burnt to death in Mayuge

THREE family members, one of them a three-month-old baby girl, were on Monday night burnt to death. A boy, who survived with grave burns, was admitted in hospital.

THREE family members, one of them a three-month-old baby girl, were on Monday night burnt to death. A boy, who survived with grave burns, was admitted in hospital.

The boy said the fire broke out when his sibling walked past a jerrican of petrol, while carrying a lit candle. The incident occurred at Musita A village, Baitambogwe in Mayuge district on Monday.

Residents told the Police that the head of the family, Musa Kakaire, who was not present at the time of the incident, was a fuel smuggler.

Southeastern regional Police commander Godfrey Aropet, named the deceased as Asha Kakaire (baby), six-year-old Hassan Kaikare and the mother, Sarah Nakango, 30.

A survivor admitted at Buluba hospital in Mayuge district, was identified as Musa Kisunkuna.

Residents could not save the lvictims as wild fire had engulfed the entire house.
By the time the fire fighting truck arrived at the scene, the victims and household property had been burnt beyond recognition.

The survivor narrated that on the fateful evening, their father brought a jerrican of petrol at home. His mother had taken baby Asha to sleep in the bedroom.

Nakango was burnt to death when she ran into the house to rescue her two children who were helplessly wailing.
Kisunkuna narrated that he rushed out of the house immediately.
