FORMER Italian national gravel champion Franko Corradin is the first driver to bow out of this weekend’s Alpha Pearl of Africa Uganda rally.
Franko was ruled out of the rally on Tuesday for lack of clearance from his national association (ASN).
“He failed to get clearance from his ASN and he didn’t produce his Italian competition license. He would have been issued with a Ugandan license if he had got clearance from Italy,†assistant clerk of course Charles Kasaija said.
Franko who bought Moses Lumala’s Toyota Celica ST185, has now resorted to testing the car as a route opener.
The Italian went route reccing with co-driver Cedric Buzabo who will partner him in his new role as route-opener.
The Pearl rally that is the third round of the Africa rally championship has attracted 26 drivers from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Belgium.
Scrutineering of cars is set for 6.00am at Caltex Ggaba road tomorrow before the super special stage at 2.00pm.
Meanwhile, Kuku Ranjit has switched to a newly acquired Mitsubishi Evo4 after his Subaru N-11 could not be set in time for the rally. Also, Caltex Uganda has offered 5000 litres of fuel worth sh11m to the event.
