THE long-awaited foreign head coach scheduled to guide Cranes through the 2008 Nations Cup qualifiers is reported to have stepped foot in the country Tuesday night and kept in hiding.
The tactician, who according to sources close to FUFA might be unveiled on Monday, will replace Egyptian Mohammad Abbas, sacked last month.
“The president (Lawrence Mulindwa) himself will unveil him and most probably on Monday,” FUFA PRO Aldrine Nsubuga (left) divulged yesterday.
Reports are rife that 42-year-old Serbian-born Tomislav Sivic had emerged as FUFA’s ultimate choice from the several that applied for the job.
“He arrived in the country on Tuesday night and has been kept in one of the Hotels around town,” a source disclosed yesterday.
Uganda’s road to Ghana 2008 starts with a home tie against Lesotho on September 3.
Nigeria and Niger are the other Cranes’ opponents in Group 3.
The 2008 Nations Cup finals in Ghana will be played from January 20 to February 10. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced this in Cairo yesterday and also confirmed the venues for Ghana 2008 as Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale.
Meanwhile, Uganda has moved one place above on the FIFA/Coca Cola world rankings from 98 to 97th, without playing any international fixture. Lesotho is 147, Niger 177 while Nigeria is Africa’s best in 12th position.
