AT least nine Lord’s resistance Army (LRA) rebels, including a commander identified only as Capt. Awere, were killed in two attacks by the UPDF mobile troops in Gulu and Pader districts on thursday, the army has said.

The northern-based army spokesman, Lt. Chris Magezi, told journalists on Thursday: “our squad of the 5th division attacked LRA rebels under the command of Maj. Okello Kalang at Opate south, Atanga sub-county in Pader district. We killed four rebels, including Maj. Kalang’s second-in-command. We rescued seven captives and recovered two sub-machine guns. There were no UPDF casualties.”

He said the UPDF 79th battalion also killed five LRA rebels in Obuturo, north of Lalogi sub-county in Gulu district.

Magezi (above) said they recovered two rifles with 94 bullets from the rebels.

He said the UPDF 23rd battalion on Wednesday night attacked an LRA position at Aculu village in Lira-Palwo sub-county in Pader district and killed one LRA battalion commander identified as Maj. David Lakwo with his two escorts.
