QUESTION: How does it feel to head the bank at this crucial stage of development?
ANSWER:
It is a great honour. Crane Bank has continuously been growing in today’s challenging market. We have always been committed to providing a financially-stable and sound banking system and have been delivering.
What are Crane Bank’s greatest strengths and what improvements do you need to introduce?
Since August 1995, the bank has rapidly grown. Our biggest strength has always been a loyal and rapidly growing customer base. We are popularly known as the “Peoples Bank.” Crane Bank has largely been responsible for introducing the savings culture among the mass market through Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) called Crane Access. We have 35 ATMs currently.
The main improvement I want to introduce is develop a branch network, which is already under implementation. Recently, we opened a branch in Mbale. We have started construction in Iganga and Lira, where our branches will be operational in a few months. We are starting to develop property in Mbarara and will also be expanding to Gulu.

What should your customers expect?
The best. We strongly believe in customer service and endeavour to provide a wide range of products and services to all sectors.

How will you handle stiff competition in the sector?
Fair competition is always healthy for customers and the economy. We have always successfully risen to the challenges and always been innovative by introducing new products to meet the demand and customers’ needs. We have just implemented a new banking software, which cost over $800,000. This software, Bankmaster Plus, is a retail banking solution tailored to meet specific needs. Customers are going to enjoy 24-hrs banking facilities everywhere. The bank registered tremendous achievements in the last 10 years. What strategies will you put in place to keep the bank at the helm?
The branch network will be the focus this year.

What is the way forward?
We shall continue to be leaders in strengthening our economy. Over the next five years, existing and future customers will see more innovations and new branches.
