I thought Uganda got her self rule from Her Majesty

SIR — There has been a lot of hullabaloo both from the opposition and the government about the impending visit of Queen Elizabeth.

SIR — There has been a lot of hullabaloo both from the opposition and the government about the impending visit of Queen Elizabeth.

It reached the crescendo on Monday when some suggested that the First Family vacate State House, Nakasero, for Her Majesty! First, it would be bad manners for our President to leave his official residence for another head of state.

I thought Her Majesty handed over the reins of power in 1962!
Second, there are thousands of places in Uganda that can comfortably accommodate the good queen.

We have several wonderful hotels – some still under construction that can ably do the job. Granted, the Queen is mighty but she does not own the world. For the record, Bill Clinton, then President of the only super power, the United States of America, visited Uganda and was hosted at The Sheraton Kampala Hotel. Bill Gates, the world’s richest person, visited Uganda and stayed at Entebbe! Pope John Paul II also visited Uganda. So, why the fuss?
